The Power of the Hug

Here are just some of the many benefits of the hug!

  • strengthens the immune system
  • can boost self-esteem
  • can increase perceptions of support and safety
  • can soothe and decrease stress
  • releases oxytocin, sometimes called the “cuddle” or bonding hormone, which has many benefits including a boost in mood.

I do know that hugs aren’t everybody’s favorite thing in the world; however, I do believe more people are in need of this kind of touch than we may realize. Safe, secure touch in the form of an embrace can be so very healing. This makes me think of the people in my life that may go days or even longer without something as simple as a meaningful hug from someone they care about. Hug more. ☺️
